This course introduces soil fertility and fertilizers as they apply to field and container crops. Topics include: soil nutrient elements, soil conditions affecting availability of plant nutrients, their availability, measurement and evaluation; soil degradation and its control, and maintenance and improvement of soil fertility and productivity; function and movement of nutrients in plants; methods of determining nutrient levels in plants, soils, and other growing media; how soil reaction and organic matter affect plant growth, liming practices and requirements for other soil amendments, and the fertilizer elements required for higher plants.
