This course will be concerned with the nature of modernity as it is constructed through theory and politics. The course will examine the transitions to modernity through studying the works and contributions of the notable political philosophers and thinkers under the six (6) themes: Liberalism, Socialism, Nationalism, Conservatism, Anarchism, and Multiculturalism. By focusing on the modern texts and philosophies of prominent intellectual figures, it grapples with the perennial issues of political theory such as the political community, class politics, political authority, obligation, justice, legitimacy, freedom, equality, human rights (minority rights) and cultural diversity and etc.
